Biography

Gordon Kyle, principal and president of Raging River Counterworks is also the creative force behind the product that inspired the company.

Gordon is an entrepreneur with an eclectic background in product design, engineering, and 'hands-on' building; ranging from furniture to boats to other conceptual projects that often defy categorization.

Interestingly, Gordon is virtually self-taught in all disciplines and prefers to
take rough conceptual sketches directly to three-dimensional prototypes in his typical design/development scenarios.

The development of the RRC Plank Countertop and Watershed Finish is a case in point. By synthesizing his intimate knowledge of lumber characteristics and construction techniques with an exploration of the latest finishing technology, and a heavy dose of trial and error, Gordon has been able to create the first truly 'waterproof' wood countertop in the history of the industry.

Raging River Counterworks

Gordon Kyle and partner Mark Stasko began Raging River Counterworks in 1995 with the idea of providing the Plank Countertops and Watershed Finish
to customers in the New England area in a 'turnkey' fashion (i.e., template, deliver, and install).

While initially starting with a few kitchen dealers in Fairfield County, Connecticut, the business has now grown to over 100 customers ranging from southern New Hampshire to southern New Jersey.

In 1995, our original challenge was to convince the dealers and designers that
a countertop that looked like fine furniture could, in fact, be waterproof and perform in a wet environment. One year later we had created a new paradigm,
and Raging River Counterworks was receiving inquiries from all over New England.

Ten years later, our new challenge is to make our expanded product line available on a national basis by focusing on the manufacturing aspects and creating a fool-proof method of building products from field information, shipping it anywhere in the country.

Working together with our Certified Dealer partners, we feel confident that once again we will succeed.
