Template-in-a-Tube Kit

RRC offers the Template-in-a-Tube Kit as a convenient way of making an accurate template that can be easily shipped. This kit is a good solution for perimeter countertops. See our Fantasy Island Program for island counters.
The Kit includes the following items:
- (1) 38" UPS mailing tube
- (1) Roll of 28" wide mylar plastic sheeting
- (1) Roll of 2" wide mylar plastic sheeting
- (1) Small roll of duct tape
- (1) Envelope containing (6) pushpins and (1) black Sharpie marker
- (1) UPS Ground Pre-Paid Return Label
- (1) Set of these instructions
Instructions
- Lay out the large mylar sheet over your base cabinets.

- Cut a length of mylar and position it tightly to the back and side walls while letting it overhang any finished edges.
Pin the mylar securely to the base cabinets at the (4) corners. NOW inspect the edges of the mylar @ the walls. If all abutting walls and tall panels fit tightly then proceed to #3 below.

- To scribe the template to the abutting walls, use the 2" wide mylar scribe strip. Because of its width this strip will conform to variations in the wall.

- Starting at the left end of each wall, push the strip tightly to the wall every foot carefully securing it to the larger mylar sheet with a small piece of tape. Once you have finished each wall, use a continuous piece of duct tape to secure the strip.

- Be sure that the mylar overhangs any edges that you will want to be finished. In the case of an island countertop over 36", tape two pieces of mylar together using the duct tape, and be sure to place 'hash marks' at numerous places along the taped pieces of mylar in order to match them up when we receive it at the factory.

- Trace the outline of the cabinetry with the Sharpie, and indicate any abutting walls or tall panels directly on the mylar.

- Measure out from the cabinet, and clearly indicate the line of the finished countertop, and note it on the mylar (with any shapes or variations you want).

- For sinks** or cooktops, mark the centerline on the template as well as the setback from the finished edge to the cutout.

**Farm sinks require that you trace out the actual opening using the installed farmsink in the cabinetry as a guide. Note finished edges and overhangs.

- If your template is two pieces of mylar, remove the tape, roll up together, affix the pre-paid UPS label, and send back to RRC.
